About Philip Davies

Philip Davies, born 1948, is a professional artist (since leaving BT as an engineer in 1992) with a special interest in helping others to learn from scratch or improve their drawing and watercolour skills.
He was, until the end of summer term 2009, Head of Art at a private school in Leyland, Lancashire but now he teaches adults at his Gallery at Haigh Hall, near Wigan.
Philip has been painting and drawing commissioned works for over twenty years, usually Watercolours or Pen & Ink. See some examples of his past work in the "Originals" gallery.
He is well known for His Wigan Prints which are on sale at Haigh Hall or here on the Prints pages of this web site.
Wall Murals are another of Philip's interests. Examples of these (from the Gallery walls at Haigh Hall) can be seen on the "Home" page. These were not for sale (as they were painted directly onto the walls) . Contact Philip through the Contact Us page or call in at Haigh Stables Gallery. He sometimes draws pencil portraits and caricatures from photographs or life (if you can sit still long enough).
Have a look at the "Faces" page. On Wednesdays watercolour classes for anyone with a couple of hours and £5 to spend.
In the non artistic side of his life Philip is involved with the Friends of Haigh Woodland Park, a community group keen to restore Haigh Hall's Leisure facilities. They work with Wigan MBC and anyone who will support them to bring improvements to the largest "Park" in Europe. Follow the links to find out more.
